ABOUT KCB

Kristen Corning Bedford received her masters degree from Antioch University in Whole Systems Design where she explored the boundaries and spaces that divide and connect us. Her thesis examined how educating and nurturing young women, involving them in the choices that affect them, could unleash untold potential on the world.

Kristen's passion for storytelling and creating vibrant communities was satisfied by her most recent position as Vice President of Community Philanthropy at The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation. This position enabled her to discuss and tackle systemic and adaptive problems that impact a community, while involving multiple stakeholders in redesigning the grantmaking process. She left the Community Foundation in 2010 to be a full time mama and philanthropic consultant.

Her career has spanned many industries, providing her with the opportunity to drive around town with a car full of prom dresses, drink Beaujolais while doing payroll, watch while a house was set on fire, scold a child for riding a unicycle, accept delivery of hundreds of snowglobes and attend an after-party for porn stars. Staying home with her new son promises to be the most interesting story yet …

ABOUT THE NUT
I'm passionate about stories - the stories we tell ourselves, the stories our culture carries beyond usefulness, the stories we can only yet visualize that provide a bridge to the future. I started this blog to explore themes of philanthropy, simplicity, design, and living with intention and integrity. I believe the greatest legacy we can leave for our planet and our children is how to build the framework of a really good story ... so it is here that I attempt to tell the story of the nut.
